In an effective IT organization, Business Alignment occurs at all three  levels of the business:

  • Strategic: The IT enablers and specific applications needed to support fundamental long-term changes.
  • Tactical: Divisional and departmental IT initiatives for enhancing performance and organizational effectiveness.
  • Logistical or Infrastructural: The basic technology available throughout the company such as electronic mail, telephone systems, and personal digital assistants.

These levels are mutually reinforcing, complementary, and interdependent, organized into an integrated whole.
